Avoid at all costs focusing on upper body strength. How many times have you seen or heard someone talk about using just pure strength to drive a ball out of the yard? Want to know the truth? Upper body strength actually has very little to do with pure power. Sure, it might help a little, but the real secret is how fast or quick your swing speed is. Upper body muscle mass actually will slow down your bat speed because of the bulk.
If you are able to locate your off-speed consistently, then this is a great opportunity to throw a changeup, slider, or curveball. By doing so, this will keep the batter off-balance and guessing. 0-1 changeups are excellent because the batter thinks you are throwing a meat fastball, but instead its 6-10 mph slower and sharply breaking downward. The result? The batter will probably swing over the top of the ball or will be way out in front of the pitch. You can have a similar result by throwing a sharp breaking slider or cutter that starts down the middle of the plate, and breaks away toward the outer half.
